Organization
For this paper, I plan to format it in a standard 5 paragraph essay. The first body paragraph will discuss Title VII and how that relates to the issue, the second paragraph would discuss how the act is a form of discrimination, and the final paragraph would discuss how it is a sign of hatred and how to overcome transphobia.
Thesis
Businesses should not have the ability to fire employees based on them being transgender being that doing so is in violation of Title VII and the act is a clear sign of discrimination and hatred.

This Wikipedia page acknowledges the murders of numerous transgender people around the world who faced violence due to being themselves. I especially wanted to include this page (despite it not technically being a “reliable source”) to really show the dangers that discrimination of people in the transgender community can lead to. In making this blog for this project, I hope to honor those who lost their lives for being their genuine selves and dedicate this blog to them. I see you, I acknowledge you, you are valid, you are valued, you are loved.

This fact is troubling because it could be a cause as to why some people feel disconnected to trans issues, since they can’t imagine the situations happening to anyone they personally know.

Paper Information
For my paper, I have chosen to write an argumentative piece. My working thesis is: Businesses should not be allowed to fire someone because they are transgender.
This topic will make for a good argumentative topic because I will be able to dive into both sides of the argument and see why people believe what they do, as well as showing the reality of living as a trans person in this day and age.

Topic
In 2018, you would imagine that we would be more progressive, accepting, and willing to be educated on stories that differ from our own. Sadly, this is not the case. We live in a society where being transgender means you still have a target on your back and people are seemingly becoming less accepting of people who don’t agree with them. Trans people can be fired from and mistreated in the workplace without much (if any) reprimanding. This topic is so important because people are being treated as if their lives are somehow less valuable simply because of who they are. Discrimination at the workplace can cause so many issues for an individual and could even affect whether or not they are able to maintain their job. My questions are ‘Is it justified to fire someone because they transition?’ and ‘Should an establishment be allowed to fire trans employees?’. I strongly believe that firing someone based solely on their gender identity is never and will never be justifiable.
This topic interests me because a former teacher at my high school went through a lot when she came out as transgender and tried to fight to keep her job. That story made me really want to dive into to this larger issue that affects many others just like her and look into possible solutions.
